Overview of the NEC3 Contracts for Works, Services and Supply

This event is designed to explain the whole NEC3 suite of contracts to people who have not used them before or need an update of all the changes up to the latest editions and other developments from the ICE's NEC office.

The NEC philosophy and how best to use the system will be discussed and an overview of each contract will be provided including when and how they are best used. There will be time to debate project and contract strategies and how each contract makes use of an agent to manage it.

Particular emphasis will be placed on the need to change to a co-operative team based approach to obtain the best result for the project, and successful projects will be examined as to why they were successful.

It is essential that any delegate wishing to enrol for the other Modules attend this event first.

All course materials will be provided.

This course is awaiting re-accreditation with SAICE and we expect it will attract 1 CPD point.

The NEC User Group and ICE-SA is proud to present a series of courses on the NEC suite of contracts during 2016. These courses will be presented by Andrew Baird, a member of the NEC drafting panel since its inception in 1993 and a significant contributor to the NEC suite we use today. Andrew has introduced the NEC to numerous organisations both in RSA and the UK since 1993, and has represented the NEC at other events in many parts of the World. These courses benefit from over 20 years of his experience in writing and using the NEC system, and the feedback provided on its implementation.

Andrew is a Chartered Civil Engineer, registered Professional Engineer (ECSA) and Fellow of both the Institution of Civil Engineers, and the South African Institution of Civil Engineers. His technical background includes a variety of hydro-electric and tunnelling projects in UK, USA and South Africa, and several years’ experience on construction sites with major contractors. Andrew headed the civil and building project management function in Eskom’s Engineering Group before becoming a Corporate Consultant for the procurement and contract management affairs of Eskom, a position he held for 8 years. It was during this time that he became involved in the early development of the New Engineering Contract (NEC), and with Eskom’s support was seconded to the UK to assist with the final development right up to publication of the first edition in 1993.

This is a truly unique opportunity to be trained by a true expert and authority on this suite of contracts.
