Introduction to the Engineering & Construction Contract (ECC3)

This event will provide delegates with an in-depth introduction to the clauses and procedures contained in the NEC3 Engineering & Construction Contract (ECC3).

Commonly known as the Black Book, ECC3 is the main contract in the whole family and can be applied to all works contracts of any size and discipline as well as multi contract projects.

There are six different pricing strategies available within the ECC3 ranging from Lump Sum, Bill of Quantities to Cost reimbursable including Target share contracts along with many secondary Options to suit commercial requirements of the Parties. Each of the pricing strategies will be introduced and their respective merits discussed and analysed.

It is essential that delegates bring a copy of the Engineering and Construction Contract with them to this course, copies can be obtained through Engineering Contract Strategies at www.ecs.co.za

This course is awaiting re-accreditation with SAICE and we expect it will attract 1 CPD point.

The NEC User Group and ICE-SA is proud to present a series of courses on the NEC suite of contracts during 2016. These courses will be presented by Andrew Baird, a member of the NEC drafting panel since its inception in 1993 and a significant contributor to the NEC suite we use today. Andrew has introduced the NEC to numerous organisations both in RSA and the UK since 1993, and has represented the NEC at other events in many parts of the World. These courses benefit from over 20 years of his experience in writing and using the NEC system, and the feedback provided on its implementation.

Andrew is a Chartered Civil Engineer, registered Professional Engineer (ECSA) and Fellow of both the Institution of Civil Engineers, and the South African Institution of Civil Engineers. His technical background includes a variety of hydro-electric and tunnelling projects in UK, USA and South Africa, and several years’ experience on construction sites with major contractors. Andrew headed the civil and building project management function in Eskom’s Engineering Group before becoming a Corporate Consultant for the procurement and contract management affairs of Eskom, a position he held for 8 years. It was during this time that he became involved in the early development of the New Engineering Contract (NEC), and with Eskom’s support was seconded to the UK to assist with the final development right up to publication of the first edition in 1993.

This is a truly unique opportunity to be trained by a true expert and authority on this suite of contracts.
